My story has a bit of a twist to it as I am an American. However, before you move on, please let me explain how I've fallen in love with Canada. I'm a sailor on tall ships. Since 1997 I've made sailing trips from Philadelphia to Cape Breton, NS and PEI. At each visit I had no problem engaging with local folks. When our exact replical of HMS BOUNTY (built for the movie MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY) sailed into Toronto on Labor Day weekend, 2003 I met a bunch of the Toronto Morris Dancers. We joined in singing sea chanties and then I was invited to meet at the TRANZAC Club later that evening for more singing. I was swept away by their comraderie and openness.

This led me to travelling from Philadelphia back to Toronto every several months for a wonderful weekend of music. I feel it was fated that I should meet my love there. After about a year I spied a beautiful lady and began to date her. Within several months I proposed and we're planning our wedding in Toronto for this July!

I'm now an active 61 and my love is just turning 60. She has joined me on a short sail on BOUNTY and we look forward to many more Canadian and US travels together.

This is my first time in the US, working as a contractor for Gulfstream in the Design Support Staff, in Savannah, Georgia. I've recently moved here from Montreal where I lived for almost 27 years now.

I guess I've not spent that much time in the US yet but I already miss hockey night, imported belgian beer and poutine.

I'd like to hear from people in the area of Savannah, GA or surrounding area. Maybe we can organize a hockey night TV or a poutine party (with genuine imported curd cheese!).

I am a US citizen who graduated from McGill in 1978. I have worked for the same computer company since graduating, and currently live near San Diego in Southern California. My hobbies include skiing, gardening, travelling, mountain biking and the beach. I hope to retire to the Lake Tahoe area in a few years. I would be intrested in meeting ex-pats especially from Montreal and McGill grads or other SOCal folk who like to ski or board.

While my dad was a medical student at McGill University my Danish mother became pregnant with me. He graduated and then they settled in to wait for me. I was born at Montreal General and then ten days later I was whisked out of the country. They stopped my foreign mother at the border to question her possession of a new born baby with no apparent attending father, (who was waiting for us in NY state). Since then I have lived in so many places, but only been back to Canada THREE times. This is especially embarassing since I live in Maine. I mean, how close can you get to Canada without actually living there?

My grandmother was also Canadian, and these two things combined have always given me a feeling of connection to the land just north of where I am.

After having difficulty securing full time work as a Registered nurse in Ottawa Ontario, I accepted a job at Enloe Medical Center in Chico, California.

I currently live in Orland, CA near Chico with my wife and 4 year old daughter. We are slowly adjusting to life in the U.S, and we have our green cards so no more TN work visa to worry about.

We have been here almost 2 years and are going up to Ottawa next month for the first time since we left.

I met my awesome husband "Bob the American Engineer" in Montreal in 1995 just as I started graduate studies at McGill -- we married in 1996, and the following year I moved to New Jersey (we live 50 km west of Manhattan).

This year we celebrate our 10th anniversary, our daughter is Lana, she's 6 years old.

Of course I miss Montreal -- everything except the harsh climate. NJ is a beautiful state though (yes there is life beyond the Turnpike!) We have the ocean in the south of us, and ... the Big Apple is only 40 minutes away.

My husband and I moved to Atlanta in July for a new career opportunity for my husband. Not knowing anyone in Atlanta has been challenging so we started the Canadian Beer Club on www.meetup.com/541 to form a social circle. It has been great. We have over 50 members, most of them US citizens from a bordering state with a great affinity for Canadians. We love our connection with our fellow Canadians and have even found a pub that shows Hockey Night in Canada. It's almost like home... exept way warmer!

Although my "soul's home" is still my cottage in Muskoka, just north of Toronto, I have lived in the United States half of my adult life but always home for Thanksgiving ...

California, Massachusetts, New York, nine years in Chicago ... last two in glorious Atlanta ... first time in nineteen years I haven't been homesick!

The south has the elegance, charming reserve and elan of Canada.
