I am a Canadian citizen who was born and raised in California. My mom was born and raised in Fort Frances, Ontario, and moved to the US quite a few years ago, and then met my Dad in San Francisco in the late 50's. I still live here in CA, although I have lived elsewhere in the West. I found a nice Canadian man from Ottawa, and we have been together for five years. A friend of his from Ottawa lives next door, so I feel "surrounded" by Canadians!

We have a Canadian Thanksgiving party every year, and this year will be our fifth anniversary. So to everyone celebrating Canadian Thanksgiving in the US - Salut!!! For everyone celebrating in Canada, I hate to make you jealous, but we wear shorts and t-shirts to Canadian Thanksgiving, because it is always beautiful weather here in early October!

I recently moved here to League City, Texas to get married. I am looking to find other Canadians around my area. I don't know if there is an expat group for Canadians to get together. I will be getting married within the next month but I wish I could spend time with fellow Canadians. If anyone out there knows of any groups that gather would you be so kind to let me know so I may join.

Hello there!

I am Jim. I came in Canada from France in 1991 to attend university at Université de Montréal.

4 years after I got my degree in political science I decided to stay in Montréal until 1999 when I became a proud Canadian citizen.

From 1999 until 2004, I went to work in France, Greece and England but in 2005, I decided it was time to come back to Montréal.

I stayed until 2007 where i finaly managed to realise my dream, to work in the Silicon Valley. I have been here 2 years and love every bit of it, especially the fast paced environment we can find here.

I am working for the biggest telecom company in the US since then.

The Bay area is where I work but Montreal is my home. I visit there 4 times a year and always miss it when I am away.

I am not Canadian, and neither are my wife, parents, grandparents, great-grandparents or other direct ancestors. I was not born in Canada, did not work or go to school there, and do not live there now. But I am an impassioned Canadianist, or Canadiaphile, or some other equally-awkward term for one with a long and impassioned (yes, you read that right) interest in, and even love of, Canada and nearly all things Canadian. I have been a director, officer and member of several Canadian-American business and social organizations and am looking now to connect with Canadians and friends of Canada in the Greater Boston area and throughout New England. I'm especially keen to hear from those who share my interests in futhering cross-border and regional ties in such areas as business, education, culture, technology and governance. We have so many similarities, and so many differences, and so much to learn from exploring them all. Hope to hear from you!

I moved from Canada 3 years ago with my mother when she got a job here in Miami with Royal Carribean cruises. I finished high school here, surprisingly, as I had some difficulty adjusting to life in South Florida. When I got my motorcycle I started to enjoy life here a little more, as I can ride it year round (No snow does have it's benefits).

Well, I got into university here. I'm a first year at Florida International University in Miami and I'm heading back to Canada in the summer. Can't wait.

We moved to the U.S. the first time in 1977 from Montreal, Quebec. We had two small children, ages 6 and 9-1/2 and wanted to live in a warmer climate. We lived in Florida for 8 years and Seattle, Washington for 11 years, until my husband took early retirement in 1996 and we moved back to Canada. Our daughters stayed in the U.S. and have become U.S. citizens. We lived on Salt Spring Island, British Columbia for 7 years, during which time our daughters married and had children and were living in Spokane, WA and Missoula, MT. In order to be closer to them, we subsequently moved to Creston, B.C., which is just above the Idaho border; closer but still in Canada. After living there for three years and still feeling disconnected to the grandchildren, we decided to move back to the U.S. and have settled in the Spokane Valley in Washington State. It is quite lovely here and only a three hour drive to Canada. A lot of the people we know from Creston have season's tickets to the concerts in Spokane and come down and spend the night, either with us or in a hotel. We have met other Canadians living in the area and we are well accepted by the locals. Having moved so many times, it is not always easy to make friends, but the people in this town are very friendly, so it has not been a problem. My husband and I are both retired now, but he worked for Eagle Hardware before it became Loews and I worked for Tasco, a company that sold optics. Last summer we drove East to visit with family and friends in Quebec and then spent 4 weeks touring Nova Scotia, PEI and New Brunswick. Unfortunately we did not get to Newfoundland, but hope to soon. We have travelled extensively throughout the U.S. as well and have enjoyed it. Both countries are so diverse. We miss Canada but enjoy being close the our grandchildren.

I am a French Canadian and was born in Montreal. I came to Rochester, NY in 2000 to complete a postdoc in psychology at the University of Rochester. It was during that time that I met my husband. We have been living in the Washington, DC area since 2003. I love my life and my little family (we have an 18 month son and another one on the way) but I miss Montreal and the Quebec culture a lot and in many different ways! My way of keeping the memories alive, aside from going there practically once a year, is to share what I know and love about my city. I would love to meet other fellow Quebecois!

Although I have been in America most of my adult years, I yearn to return home to Quebec, where my hearts beats to a peace without disruptions. It is the poetry in my spirit that encourages Americans to visit my home land. It is the pleasure in knowing I am Canadian that brings out the best in me. I am grateful. Thank you Canada, for inspiring me. I am thankful for you in me, as I in you.

Hi! My name is Jonathan and I met this wonderful guy in South Beach, Miami Florida in April 2006. Since then, we have travelled back and forth from Philadelphia and Montreal many many many times. It's now been 2 years that we are together and our biggest wish is to finally live together in the USA. It has been really hard for us to obtain any green card of visa here compared to Canada.

I'm now back in Montreal and my mate is still in Philadelphia. I have a bachelor and qualify for lots of H1B or TN1 visas! But after one year of looking , I still did not find any job for myself. I found that often, the employers are scared to hire people from another country.

Do any other people live a similar story? I feel like I'm stuck up here in Montreal. Any help would be really nice!
