The financial burden incurred by employers of military reservists can and will erode the relationship between employers, military reservists and the military, posits Colin Busby of the C.D. Howe Institute. He urges for a federal program that would financially assist employers of military reservists, so that the costs of national defence would be more equitably distributed throughout the general public. Six Canadian Cities out of 50 Have the Winning Combination that Attracts Migrants
Calgary, Waterloo, Ottawa, Vancouver, St. John’s and Richmond Hill have what migrants are looking for when choosing where to locate, according to a report released by the Conference Board of Canada. The cities were assessed based on seven categories: Society, Health, Economy, Environment, Education, Innovation, and Housing. Read

70% of Inuit Preschoolers Live in ‘Food-Insecure” homes
Researchers at McGill University conducted a study of 388 Inuit children in Nunavut and found that food-insecurity is “all too prevalent in homes with Inuit preschoolers in Canadian Arctic communities.” The study urges for better support systems for Inuit families with children. Read

Vitamin D Supplements Could Fight Crohn’s Disease
A new study has found that Vitamin D, readily available in supplements or cod liver oil, can counter the effects of Crohn’s disease. John White, an endocrinologist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre, led a team of scientists from McGill University and the Université de Montréal who will present their findings in the latest Journal of Biological Chemistry.
