Le cinquième Sommet annuel des leaders nord-américains a eu lieu à Guadalajara, au Mexique, les 9 et 10 août 2009. Ce sommet a fourni l’occasion aux dirigeants du Canada, des États-Unis et du Mexique de discuter d’enjeux bilatéraux, nord-américains et mondiaux de première importance.

À la suite de sa visite au camp des personnes déplacées Jalozai au Pakistan, la ministre de la Coopération internationale et vice-présidente du Comité du Cabinet sur l’Afghanistan a annoncé aujourd'hui que le gouvernement du Canada accordera un additionnel 25 M$ afin d'appuyer les activités humanitaires actuelles dans la province frontière du Nord-Ouest et dans les zones tribales sous administration fédérale.
