Going off-road on a Rocky Mountain bike tour
Five men from California, Colorado, Connecticut and New York, plus Peter Weiland, our tour guide and support van driver and Dieter, his father/tour assistant, and I were travelling from Banff to Jasper, from where, the following morning, we would begin our five-day, 300-kilometre Icefields Parkway cycling adventure. Read. [National Post]

Ottawa exhibit highlights 'Karsh: the image maker'
The photographs of Yousef Karsh are technical marvels - exquisitely lit, sublimely detailed, masterfully printed. But it was the man himself who transformed an Armenian immigrant into `Karsh of Ottawa', a raconteur and photographic virtuoso through whose lenses generations of world leaders, celebrities and cognoscenti sought immortality. Encounter Karsh's life and works here. [The Star]

Escape to Acadia and a fiddler's green frozen in time
With fiddle music in the background and Acadian performers dancing up a storm, history is enlivened with a rhythmic step. Taking a stroll back through time at the Village Historique Acadien in northeast New Brunswick, you'll find it tough not to keep your toes from tapping. Read   [National Post]

An orca odyssey off Vancouver Island
"Orcas!" I said. Lexie and Caleb, our Sea Kayak Adventures guides, were asking me and seven others about our overall objective for a six-day kayaking trip. My co-paddlers and I were attending a night-before, planning-and-get-to-know-each-other session at the Haida-Way Inn in Port McNeill on the north-eastern tip of Vancouver Island. It's one thing to go a cruise with a whale-watching guide - it's quite another to paddle a kayak out to where the mammoth creatures live. Read more about Donald Mallon's orca adventure here. [National Post]

Discover the Canada you don't know
The Canadian Tourism Commission has launched an eight-week campaign aimed at encouraging Canadians to travel to unknown parts of the country -- unknown to other than locals, that is. Canadians will be encouraged to upload photos of their favourite Canadian travel spots and great unknown experiences at the campaign Web site, localsknow.ca. Air Canada is introducing a special travel offer for the duration of the campaign. Explore Canada from sea, to sea, to sea here. Français [Locals Know]

Ontario outing: See the light at Torrance Barrens
Reflecting on his previous travel experiences, Muhammad Lila regrets never seeing the stars. According to Lila, "Sure, I'd looked up on a clear night and seen twinkling bright specs. I'd even made out the Big Dipper and Orion's Belt on occasion. But I'd never really seen them - not the way they're supposed to be seen." Read about his experience in Muskoka's Torrance Barrens, a region that is surrounded by conservation lands. With no artificial light reaching it and no hills or hydro towers to block the view, it's a near-perfect site for stargazing. Read [The Star]

Saskatoon's Broadway District
When you hear the word Broadway, one thing probably comes to mind: extravagant live performances. Let's just say this historic prairie neighbourhood generates its own buzz. By July, the three-block cluster in Saskatoon is in full swing with performance artists, musicians and even fortune-tellers eager to entertain, booths selling everything from handmade jewellery to leather goods, and a cool mix of independent shops, intimate restaurants, cool coffee houses and lively pubs. Work your way from one end to the other, and stop in at our top picks along the way. Discover Saskatoon here. [Pure Canada]

Fish out of water
How do you catch a monster northern pike on a fly rod? By refusing to take the bait. Local still-water fishing is legendary. Sportsmen drop down to throw big manta plug lures into the water, regularly hauling in pike a yard long. Read more about the fishing adventures here. Français [enRoute]
