Each day, street performers, "New Vaudevillians," and other acts both vocal and visual perform throughout the city, particularly in the "Latin Quarter" -- an area known for its theatres, cafés and boutique shopping. Experience history and hike the Yukon’s Chilkoot Trail
The Chilkoot Trail from Skagway, Alaska, to Bennett in the Yukon has been called the “meanest 32 miles in history”, but it also features some of the most beautiful country in Canada’s north. The centerpiece of the Klondike Gold Rush International Historic Park, it was crossed by thousands of stampeders seeking their fortune after gold was discovered near Dawson City in 1896. Today, for students of Canada’s great northern heritage, this trail symbolizes the courage, endurance and struggle of the men and women who pioneered the north and who have given us the Yukon experience that we can all enjoy today.
Discover Canada’s Napa of the North on one of British Columbia’s wine tours
Swirl, sip and savour a huge variety of award-winning wines on a British Columbia wine tour. Spend a day popping into a few wineries or plan a week-long excursion. Some wineries welcome overnight stays and many are located near communities with plenty of accommodation. Most of the wineries are open year-round for tours and tastings but there is a high season – usually between April and September, when the BC weather is at its best. Combine good wine with delicious food and spectacular scenery, and nibble locally-made foods at a winery picnic area or enjoy gourmet lunch on a patio overlooking vineyards.
Embrace Scottish heritage at one of the world’s largest highland games
Since the first Games were held in 1948, the people of Glengarry have extended close to a million welcomes to visitors who come to see what is estimated to be one of the largest Highland Games in the world. Hundreds of thousands of people have found themselves drawn once a year to Maxville, to witness an outstanding display of music, dance, sports, fiddling, pageantry, and tradition. In the course of the day, more than 60 pipe bands are put through their paces to decide the North American Pipe Band Championships™, more than 200 dancers defy gravity in the Highland Dance competition and giants hurl telephone pole-sized cabers and 50 pound iron hammers around the infield. It is a memorable and incredible event.
