Déclaration de l'ambassade du Canada

L'ambassade et les consulats généraux du Canada sont régulièrement en contact avec les personnes impliquées dans les campagnes présidentielles, et ils font périodiquement des rapports sur ces communications pour les responsables concernés. Dans un rapport émis récemment par le consulat général du Canada à Chicago, on ne souhaitait nullement laisser entendre, de quelque façon que ce soit, que le sénateur Obama et le personnel de sa campagne tenaient en public des propos différents des opinions exprimées en privé, notamment à propos de l'ALENA. Nous regrettons infiniment toute conclusion qui aurait pu être tirée en ce sens. Le peuple américain est en train de se choisir un nouveau président et il a la chance de disposer de candidats solides et imposants au sein des deux partis politiques. Le Canada n'interviendra en aucune façon dans ce processus électoral. Nous souhaitons cependant travailler avec la personne choisie par le peuple américain à renforcer davantage les relations sans égales que nous entretenons avec ce proche partenaire et allié.

Canada cracks a billion barrels

Led by the East Coast, the nation's oil output cracked the billion-barrel mark for the first time in 2007, Statistics Canada reported Wednesday. Canadian companies produced a record 1.01 billion barrels of oil and equivalents last year, up about 4.2 per cent from 2006. The figure works out to 2.77 million barrels per day including bitumen and associated natural gas liquids.
