Le PM présente une motion révisée sur l'avenir de la mission du Canada en Afghanistan

Lors d’un discours prononcé aujourd’hui devant la Conférence des associations de la défense, le Premier ministre Stephen Harper a présenté les détails de la motion révisée du gouvernement sur l’avenir de la mission du Canada en Afghanistan. Le Premier ministre Harper a souligné que la motion révisée découle d’un effort visant à arriver à un consensus bipartite aux Communes sur l’avenir de la mission. Elle repose sur la motion originale du gouvernement, conçue en fonction des recommandations du Groupe d’experts indépendant sur le rôle futur du Canada en Afghanistan, et comprend d’importants éléments d’une motion présentée par le Parti libéral. « Cette motion reconnaît ce qui est requis pour que la mission du Canada en Afghanistan soit un succès », a dit le Premier ministre.

Le budget de 2008 : un leadership responsable dans un contexte économique incertain

Dans la foulée de l’Énoncé économique présenté par le gouvernement en octobre 2007, l’honorable Jim Flaherty, ministre des Finances, a déposé aujourd’hui un budget équilibré, ciblé et prudent pour renforcer le Canada dans un contexte économique mondial incertain. Le budget de 2008 continue de réduire la dette et les impôts, cible les dépenses publiques et fournit une aide supplémentaire aux secteurs de l’économie qui sont en difficulté dans la période d’incertitude actuelle.

Le gouvernement du Canada investit plus de 30 millions de dollars dans des projets de science et technologie visant l'amélioration de la sécurité au Canada

Federal Finance Minister Jim Flaherty says there needs to be a recognition by Americans that NAFTA benefits the United States tremendously. Mr. Flaherty told CTV's Canada AM that those who speak of NAFTA as just a helpful thing for the Canadian and Mexican economies are missing the point that this is tremendously important for the U.S. economy's health as well.

Hillier urges Ottawa to extend Afghanistan mission

Parliament should give "overwhelming'' support to an extension of Canada's mission in Afghanistan or risk the wrath of an enemy that strikes at weakness, the country's top soldier said Friday. Strong economy boosts household spending: StatsCan

A strong Canadian economy is one reason why overall household spending was up in 2006, according to the latest research by Statistics Canada. A survey of household spending showed on average, spending was up 4.6 per cent from 2005 -- an amount above the 2 per cent inflation rate. The average household spent $48,770 on goods and services.

More and more oil companies are diving into Canada's oil-soaked sands, eager to capitalize on vast resources in a stable country that welcomes outsiders. In 2007 alone, Royal Dutch Shell, Marathon Oil Corp. and BP increased or established positions in the sands, either to extract the thick, tarlike oil or work with a Canadian producer to refine it in the United States.

Canada contributes to record global wind energy growth

Globally, wind energy development set another record in 2007 by adding 20,000 megawatts (MWs) of new, emission-free wind power to transmission systems around the world. Canada's valued contribution is in the 1,846 MWs of clean, renewable wind energy currently installed across the country, which include 386 MWs from new wind energy projects commissioned in 2007. A further 700 MWs are expected to be available in 2008. Wind energy now produces enough electricity in Canada to meet the needs of 560,000 homes.
