Canadians Celebrate "Hockey Night in Houston"

Ceremonial puck-drop by Houston Consul/Trade Commissioner David McGregor, MIADC-Canada chair Nadine Eidman, and Mayor Pro-Tem Adrian Garcia
It was "Hockey Night in Houston" this past Saturday, as the Houston Aeros (AHL) took on the visiting Manitoba Moose in special Canada Night event! The Aeros collaborated with Connect2Canada, the Canadian Consulate in Houston, the Mayor's International Affairs and Development Council for Canada (MIADC-Canada), and local community partners, inviting ex-pats from across the city to a pre-game reception at the city's downtown hockey arena. Over 80 Canadian expats came downtown to the Toyota Center's Jack Daniel's Bar before the start of the contest for a friendly "meet & greet" with local ex-pats, including staff from the the Houston consulate.
Saturday's contest opened with a singing of the Canadian national anthem by youth from Houston's KIPP preparatory academy, as well as a ceremonial "puck drop" by MIADC-Canada chair Nadine Aboud Eidman, Mayor Pro-Tem Adrian Garcia, and consul/trade commissioner David McGregor from the Houston Consulate. With Canadian ex-pats scattered throughout the area, the crowd was thoroughly into the contest, and the Aeros posted another victory over the Moose, 4-1. A good time was had by all in attendance!
