Glad to find this site. Enjoyed reading it. I have been in the states now for 47 years. I have been married to a US native for 36 years and have a son and daughter and 1 grandson. Now that I am going to need a pasport to travel back and forth to Canada and getting close to needing the proper paperwork to get my Social Security I had better start my Green Card paper work :-)

I was adoped and lived in Ontario but about 15 years ago I found 7 of my birth sibblings in BC. I was the 3rd of 8. It has been special.

Even after being in the States all these years and love it, CANADA is still home and proud of it!! I stand tall and proud for the U.S. as well.

I and many thousands of other former Canadian citizens are to automatically have their Canadian citizenship restored as a result of passage of Bill C-37 by the Canadian Senate on April 16, 2008, my birthday.

I immigrated to the US in 1954 and have been a 'Lost Canadian' since 1971 when I became a US citizen in California in order to obtain a California Real Esate Broker license. I did not become aware of the loss of my citizenship until I retired in 1998 and made plans to return to Canada.

The Citizenship Immigration Canada web site stated that if a person was born in Canada, they were a Canadian citizen. The information provided by the CIC staff, on their 800 number, provided the same information.

For the years since, I have been living in Canada, in limbo, not really sure whether or not I am a citizen. Bill C-37 has finally resolved the matter. For more information go to: http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/department/media/releases/2008/2008-04-16.asp

Bill C-37 also provides Canadian citizenship to WWII War Brides and their children and members of other groups.

Hi there, we've been in Lafayette, Louisiana for the last 3 years. Like everyone else work got me and my family here. I presently work in the marine survey industry (make maps of the bottom of the ocean). We run AUVs (Autonomous Underwater Vehicle), one in the gulf of Mexico, another in Brazil and a third one in Africa. I do most of my work outide the US. It was a very demanding adjustment period for my wife and daughter since my work takes me offshore for periods of time, also since I'm on a TN visa I'm the only one with a SSN so they are not allowed to work. My wife enjoys her forced early retirement. We enjoy the weather (lack of snow) except for the hurricanes, the closeness to the gulf of Mexico (90 mins away) and the southern charm.

We have had a few difficulties getting used to the south but all in all we are all very happy here. Don't get me wrong, we all miss Canada and anything Canadian. We came from the Annapolis Valley in NS. Nothing could be better then the people of the Maritimes. What would I give for a poutine, a bread bowl of Timmy's stew, Boston cream donut, etc. We try and go back as often as possible which is to say not often enough. Whoever needs info on life in Louisiana please feel free to contact me for a first hand account on life here. Cheers.

Our story isn't much different in the sense that we decided to move to U.S. during late 1999 for better career and income prospects. Life in Texas from that perspective has been wonderfully rewarding.

I work as manager for a software development & IT services firm. I also manage a healthcare staffing firm. My wife found opportunities to become an accountant. Our daughter will soon graduate from UT Austin.

We're in regular contact with family & friends in Canada. Montreal remains close to our hearts. I miss snow, hockey, cafes, public transport and culturally rich & vibrant life.

Hi There! I don't so much have a story, but rather I have a question for all you Canadians living in the United States that are married to Americans or foreigners. I am from Argentina and live in Arizona but I am engaged to a wonderful Canadian girl. Not bad eh?! We want to get married in Arizona but if we move back to Canada, will the marriage be recognized? Or do we have to move back to Canada to get married? She is not a US Citizen yet and only has a green card. Any suggestions on where is best to get married considering our status'? Thanks for your help and I hope to hear back from you soon. CIAO!

We moved two years ago from beautiful Calgary, Alberta where our children grew up. 13 years of it! Now we are in Arlington, VA. Completely different environment, also full of beauty and excitement. Many art exhibitions and performances to choose from. Meeting people from all over the world in this cosmopolitam atmosphere. I am an executive coach and leadership/communication facilitator and now work with non profit and health care here. It has been a great transition. How wonderful though to stay connected with Canada in its many forms... through hockey. The Flames and Barrage who we saw yesterday in a fabulous show!

I grew up in Chateauguay, Quebec and moved to Billerica, MA back in 1988. Presently, I work for a medical device company and love it. I miss my old stomping grounds, Chateauguay and Montreal, as I have fond memories of growing up there. I have lived down in Massachusetts for close to 20 years and love it just as much if not more! I miss Hockey Night in Canada (although the Bruins have grown on me over the years!), I miss smoke meat sandwiches and Montreal pizza (no place compares to Montreal pizza). I visit there often as it will always be my home.

I was invited to work in New York City for one of the world's largest banks under the NAFTA agreement by a former colleague at CIBC.

As a consultant working in IT and Business Management arenas, I spent 3+ years as an independent consultant with Credit Suisse. In the tri-state area, I also worked for firms such as the Prudential, Barclays Capital, Newark Public Schools, and the Newark Alliance.

On 9/11 I had left my apartment in Battery Park City on the lower west side of Manhattan and was in Newark working when someone told me a plane had crashed into the World Trade Center. Since a friend was still in the apartment I was somewhat concerned. When the second plane hit the second tower I attempted to reach my friend. We were able to talk by phone until the line went dead. When the Towers collapsed, I went to a high spot in Newark that overlooked lower Manhattan and I was shocked.

My friend was evacuated from the apartment and finally ended up in the Bayonne area. It took me many hours to reach them and we spent the night in middle Jersey at another friend's house.

Due air quality concerns in the Battery Park City area I relocated. I eventually ended up living in an apartment in Jersey City. Since then I have purchased and sold a house in Los Angeles and purchased another house in Phoenix.

I've been involved in two start up technology companies and have provided my consulting services to more companies including CDG, a Boeing subsidiary, a transit authority in upstate New York, and an international Bluetooth product accessories manufacturer.

Canada is where I was born but I sure don't miss the snow and cold. Sorry Canucks!

By the way, that friend I mentioned before is now my wife.
