  • Carleton University Hosts the 2008 All-Canada University Association Event
  • Held at the National Press Club in the heart of Washington, D.C., this celebratory evening will feature Carleton University alumnus and Editor-in-chief of the Globe and Mail, Edward Greenspon, who will speak on "Canada - Do we have the guts to go for Gold?"

    Over the past decade Canada has recovered from a deep economic and social malaise. We spent too much time bragging about being the best country in the world rather than making ourselves the best country in the world. What will it take for Canada to become a true gold medal nation? Ed Greenspon will explore the good and the bad and question whether we have the guts to run with the best.

  • The Central Florida Branch of the Queen's University Alumni Inaugural Meeting
  • Saturday, April 26, 2008 the Central Florida Branch of the Queen's University Alumni will hold its inaugural meeting in the private dining room of Houlihan's, 9150 International Drive, Orlando Florida, 32819.

    A reception will be held at 5:00 pm where alums will be able to browse Queen's displays, as well as view DVD's on the Queen's Sport Complex Construction, 125 years of Golden Gael's football and highlights of the past season and most importantly socialize with other Queen's alumns. Following the reception, at 6:00 pm will be dinner with a guest speaker.

    The Chapter is delighted to welcome Professor Gad Saad, Associate Professor of Marketing at Concordia University’s renowned John Molson School of Business. Dr. Saad will discuss The Evolutionary Bases of Consumption, the title of his recent book on applying evolutionary theory in understanding a broad range of consumption phenomena. His presentation will cover topics that include products that men and women purchase to beautify themselves in the mating market, why we prefer fatty foods, the act of gift-giving to kin and the universal contents of products of popular culture (e.g., the observation that we sing about what is most important to us from an evolutionary perspective). Integral to this discussion will be the Darwinian mechanisms that drive each of these phenomena.
