What is Twitter?

Twitter is a "micro-blogging" site - a place where users can share updates about their lives and stay connected with family, friends, and colleagues.

In 140 characters or less, Twitter members try to answer the question, "What are you doing?" Each post a person makes on Twitter (called a "tweet") communicates a tidbit about their day; whether you're picking your kids up from school, ordering a pizza, or just watching TV, Twitter is designed for talking about the "little things" in everyday life.

For businesses, Twitter can be used to broadcast a company's latest news and blog posts, and to interact with customers. Media networks are also increasingly using Twitter to broadcast breaking news alerts to their followers.
